A Playground Afternoon
Play on Steam
A multiplayer 3D platforming party game based on Johan Huizinga's theory of ludic play, A Playground Afternoon was originally a passion project to learn multiplayer in Unreal Engine but quickly became more than that and was used for my dissertation project.
Host a lobby and invite friends using Steam's multiplayer, customise your character and the game rules, and play games of Tag, King of the Hill, or Racing.
The game's development was very complex due to the way multiplayer works, but through understanding of things like what needs to happen locally or on the server, how to replicate everything properly, and how the game uses multiple instances of each player, the independent development of A Playground Afternoon was possible.
